Since July 2010 when Kettering Borough Council turned down our proposal for a new Sainsbury’s foodstore at Magnetic Park, we have been considering our options and looking for the best way to move the scheme forward.
We have now revised and improved our proposal, and have resubmitted our application. The new scheme changes include:
•an additional foot and cycle path to provide access to the site
•from Harborough Road
•maintaining more of the existing landscaping
•additional landscaping in the car park to break up the expanse of tarmac
•adding brickwork detail and more glazing to enhance the store’s appearance
•revising the design of the roof to provide simple and contemporary lines
•using close-boarded timber to screen views into the service yard
•better access to the petrol station
With a 21,450 sq m sales area, a 241 capacity car park and a competitively-priced petrol station, our proposed new store will still feature a wide range of popular Sainsbury’s food products, a limited range of non-food items and facilities for our customers.
If approved, the development will create up to 200 full and part-time jobs for local people.

Sainsbury’s has expressed its disappointment at Kettering Borough Council Planning Committee’s decision to refuse its application for a foodstore at Magnetic Park in Desborough.
If the plans had been approved, Sainsbury’s would have created up to 200 new jobs for local residents, provided Desborough with a 21,452sqft (1,993sqm) foodstore and a much-needed
petrol station, as well as contributed £650,000 towards improvements to public transport, pedestrian paths and public areas in the town.
Sainsbury’s will now consider its options before deciding on the next steps, and will update the local community in due course.
